Malmö had a royal visit from Oscar I and his family in 1848, partly to keep abreast of developments in Europe (the First Schleswig War was imminent). On June 18, Prince Karl and his court came to the park to see J Riego's circus company, who promised breathtaking acts including "acrobatics on a tightrope with Baroque dance". Unfortunately, thunder started and much of the planned entertainment had to be cancelled. Fritz von Dardel was present that day, and captured the scene in a watercolour. From his painting, it appears that the hunting pavilion was used as a changing room. What the prince thought of the disrupted show, we can only guess. The tower has also been used as a coffee and lemonade kiosk. Foto: Målning av Fritz von Dardel Foto: Arbetarörelsens arkiv
