Moriska paviljongen

This remarkable building, commissioned by the Social Democrats, was completed in 1903. A Moorish pavilion with inspiration from oriental architecture, it also pays homage to Tivoli in Copenhagen. Jewish architect Aron Wolf Krenzisky designed it his parents had fled to Sweden from the pogroms in Eastern Europe. His mother, Badana Smolinsky, gave birth to 12 children in 23 years. The family was poor, but the eldest son had the opportunity to study architecture and ended up taking several assignments in Malmö. His mother in her old age, from the windows of her apartment in Mäster Henriksgatan could look upon this pavilion, her son s enduring work. Photograph: Jeanette Rosengrens samling
