During his stay in Rome around 1836, Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770 - 1844) made a series of four reliefs that he named The Ages of Life - The Times of the Year .
During his stay in Rome around 1836, Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770 - 1844) made a series of four reliefs that he named The Ages of Life - The Times of the Year . These, and several other of his works, became popular in the mid-19th century as paintings to hang at home and as tombstone ornaments. Two of the designs from the series, Spring and Youth/Summer , were reproduced on the outside of this building the old gardener's residence facing Möllevångsgatan. Youth/Summer features a harvest scene with a young, besotted couple, while Spring depicts small cherubs giving flowers to young woman. The Danish neoclassical master made this small corner of Möllevången his own!
