Suellska villan

In 1796, married couple Frans Suell and Anna Cajsa af Trolle built this neat summer cottage, that they named Lugnet uti Möllevången (Peace in Möllevången). Most of the time they lived close to Stortorget, but during the summer months they preferred to escape the cramped, noisy, smelly city centre. They converted their land close to the house to an English-style park in 1806 to 1807. This land makes up almost half of what is now Folkets Park (they had around 30,000 m 2 ). A couple of decades later, in 1836, pharmacist Johan Barkman converted the house into Malmö Brunnsinrättning , a place for the bourgeoisie to gather, eat, dance, and drink fresh spring water.
