Several factories and workplaces were established along the lively Bergsgatan in late 19th century, specialising in textiles, cars, chocolate, bread, and much more. The city grew rapidly during this period, with the population approximately doubling every twenty years. Many of the new residents of Möllevångarna made their living here. The red brick buildings were the home of Fabriks AB Scandinavia, which manufactured ribbons, yarn, thread and buttons, as well as having a woodwork division. A Danish-owned company, it employed 250 to 300 people here in its heyday. During the First World War, there were restrictions on imports so the factory mostly produced yarn made from paper.
