Södervärn station was built in 1886, on the Malmö-Ystad line that opened in 1874. At that time, trains were steam-powered and, in fact, steam trains continued to use the line right up until its closure albeit in combination with the characteristic orange-yellow trains you can see in the first photograph. In the second, older photograph, you can see the Sweden-Norway union flag (also known as the Herring Salad) on the station building. That means that we can date the photograph to before 1905. The Södervärn-Falsterbo section was closed down on 22 August 1971, and Södervärn station was demolished in January 1981. Over the following years, the area around the station fell into disrepair and became overgrown and full of rubbish until the new, refreshed Södervärn was built.
