Claesgatan 5

The Claes in Claesgatan is Claes Nestor Siegbahn.

The Claes in Claesgatan is Claes Nestor Siegbahn. He was a bookkeeper who owned land in the Abel, Blenda, Christoffer, and Daniel neighbourhoods (i.e. the areas that Claesgatan runs through). He was friends with both Otto Fredrik Frick and Bengt Göran Ahlman they also give their names to streets around here. In 1971, the buildings here were threatened with demolition, prompting the residents to protest against what they called the "demolition mafia" (rivningsmaffian). The poster reads: "Every human being has the right to live where he thrives. We, at Claesgatan 5, are also human beings. We do not want to move to a sterile Rosengård atmosphere. We thrive here. Stop the demolition mafia!" Photograph: Bilder i Syd
