They had built something like a footbridge, that extended from the stage of the summer theatre out into the middle of the audience. So the speaker, who was a woman, had stood in the middle of the strikers. She was wearing a yellow-beige blouse and skirt, a red scarf with long fringes and a sailor hat. It was Elma Danielsson. I wanted to hear her, said Mother. " From A Piece of Bread with Anna (En bit bröd med Anna) by Herta Wir n, 1975. This scene takes place during the general strike of 1909. The second photograph is from the same occasion, showing Thorvald Stauning address the crowd. In 1924, Stauning became Denmark's first Social Democrat prime minister.
