How wonderfully Malmö-ist to describe Folkets park as "the centre of the earth"! This description appeared in a 1910 magazine, which also announced that in the park you could: "for a cheap price get food, coffee, painkillers, delicious alcoholic drinks, and smoking items if desired". Today, the pond is used for paddling or ice-skating depending on the weather. Back when the park was originally constructed (in 1806, at the behest of Frans Suell and his wife) it was much bigger. It was a pond for fishing, with an islet in the middle. The pond has been dredged on several occasions over the years. The most recent photograph is from the mid-1980s, when you could shoot around the pond on inflatable motorboats.
