Two acres of land here at the southern end of the park, next to what is now Kristianstadsgatan, were once owned by a commercial gardening company called Lundbergska handelsträdgården. In order to expand the park and make sure this area wouldn t be sold to housing developers, it was bought on 14 September 1897 for 50,000 Swedish kronor. That s exactly the same price as the whole park had cost just a few years earlier. The purchase gave the park the rectangular shape it still has today. This part of the park was entrusted to a gardener named Pettersson, who set about installing flower beds, arbors and shrubbery. The picture shows the area when it was still owned by Lundbergska handelsträdgården.
