Hasselgatan was originally called Sturegatan, but together with several other streets nearby, it was renamed when Sofielund was incorporated in 1911. The adjacent Brahegatan became Bokgatan, for example. The photograph shows a small tinsmith s workshop. Since it was taken in 1967, it has been painted yellow, the door has been replaced, and it s generally been freshened up, but its still recognisable. A little further down the street, at the intersection with Björkgatan (called Tegn rgatan pre-1911), there was once a Godtemplar hall, in the early 20th century. These were drivers of the increasingly influential sobriety movement this was especially prominent in working class areas. Meetings would begin at 8 pm, so that the participants could get home from work and be able to eat their supper before attending. "Agitation parties" were also held in these premises by the Fridsvapnet group, with the aim of stirring up support for social change movements.
