Many of the companies that moved out to Sofielund's industrial area had previously been based in central Malmö. They needed more space and modern facilities for their production. Malmö Bleckvarufabrik known locally as "Bleckan" had a different journey. They started life in åkarp in 1890. They then moved briefly to Lund, before arriving in Malmö in 1909 (and added the Malmö to their name). The factory premises were new then, and had adjacent space that the company eventually expanded into. Inside this building you would have found lithographic printing machinery and equipment for making tin packaging - just in time for the golden age of tinned goods. Canned meat and vegetables saved housewives a lot of time and effort in the basic kitchens of the time. In 1919, the company merged with AB Plåtmanufaktur. Photography: Malmö stadsarkiv
