Light my Fire

Activist Agneta Berndt lived in this building when she was 18.

Activist Agneta Berndt lived in this building when she was 18. In 1972, she wrote to the progressive Danish pair Inge and Sten who wrote a sex advice column for a Swedish newspaper to ask if there were any gay meeting places in Malmö. Two years later, Berndt sent a contact ad to the newspaper Kvällsposten, which was rejected on the grounds that it was a provocative sex contact . The ad read: 20-year-old dyke = gay = lesbian girl who likes jeans and sweaters, nice music and nature. Would like to meet you, a girl who is not afraid to show her true self to her surroundings. You enjoy doing things for other smiles . The ad was signed "Light my fire". At the time, Berndt was a member of the group that would become the Lesbisk Front in Malmö.
