In 1896, Fritz K rzel opened a spinning mill here, named K rzels Fabriker AB. It became one of the largest in the city, producing dresses, rugs, and cloths for cleaning. In the 1940s, they had around 600 employees who benefited from a thoughtful personnel policy. For example, those with young children could bring them to work, where they would be put on to the company bus and driven to a Villa Midhem (close to where the motorway now enters Malmö) whereby they would be taken care of and brought back at the end of the working day. The building is also nicknamed Ugglanhuset (The Owl House), on account of the stone owl, just out of picture. Photography company Kungsfoto would later have their premises here for many years.
