In 1953, the MKB housing association built an eight-storey building here, in the Fritz neighbourhood. On the left of the picture you can see Sevedsgatan. Sevedsplan sits behind the high-rise building, on a patch of land that was previously an allotment garden, and a meadow before that. In the 50s, the neighborhood effectively became a small town within the city of Malmö, centred around Sevedsplan. The square housed a bakery, a tailor, a hairdresser, a florist, a tobacconist and a grocery store. When the area was built, cars were beginning to become more common and more thought was being given to traffic management. The city s policy involved building cul-de-sacs, in an attempt to reduce traffic in residential areas and make the streets freer for cyclists and pedestrians.
