From Bo Widerberg's 1952 novel, Hösttermin: Then came Folkets Park, with the vibrant colours of its cramped carousels and Amiralen s exaggeratedly wide arch; more than anything, the dancehall looked like an aeroplane hangar. But there the street widened, and became airy under the thick foliage of chestnut trees; you could imagine this is what a Parisian boulevard looked like. He remembered Amiralsgatan in the spring when the chestnuts swelled. When the sun shone on this street after the rain, it was perhaps more beautiful than any other in town.
