At the start of the 20th century, most of Malmö s factories were still located in the city centre. City planners encouraged the flight to dedicated industrial areas in the decades that followed, and Norra Grängesbergsgatan became an important street from the early 1930s. Industry around this area expanded in line with the city s wishes, boosted by easy access to the Continental railway line (it links Malmö to the port at Trelleborg, and thus to Europe). A lot of the streets in this area are named after Swedish manufacturers. The picture shows the old electricity substation in the foreground. Photograph: Malmö stadsarkiv
