In 1891, the Social Democrat party took over the lease of Möllevångsparken (as Folkets park was then known) from Godtemplarna the Swedish temperance movement. The future park manager Petter Weiland describes the sober management of the park: The Godtemplarna had leased the park for several years, with such success that the number of bottles of confiscated booze almost matched the number of punches flying through the air. Black eyes, swollen lips, and knocked-out teeth were the souvenirs that the park s bold visitors brought back from Godtemplarna s rickety dancefloor, that sat among the park s then less-than-well-known aged elms.
