Majken Johansson was one of Sweden's most notable poets of the second half of the 20th century.
Majken Johansson was one of Sweden's most notable poets of the second half of the 20th century. She was born out of wedlock to a young waitress in Malmö, then lived with a foster family at this address until she was 13. In 1952, her first collection of poems was published. It contained what would become her most well-remembered line of poetry: Mitt namn är Ma-ha-ha-jken Joha-honsson. She had a secret relationship with female director Solveig Borg, which ended with Borg s suicide. Borg appears in all Johansson s subsequent poetry collections, referred to only as "S". In 1958, Johansson joined the Salvation Army. One of her poems ends with a line that is especially characteristic of her work, a mixture of darkness, hope and playfulness: "Hallelujah ANYWAY!".
