On 22nd March 1969, Judy Garland arrived in Malmö and checked in to the Savoy Hotel. She wasn t in great shape, and it seemed unlikely that she d be physically able to perform her scheduled concert that evening at Kronprinsen's stage. Her gig in Gothenburg a few days earlier had been cancelled. However, local businessman Hugo åberg was determined that the show would go on and offered 90,000 kronor to ensure that the performance would take place. His tactics succeeded and Judy delivered a barnstorming show featuring her most-loved songs including Over the Rainbow . Tragically, it would be her penultimate show, and she died in London three months later from an overdose of sleeping pills. åberg was killed in a traffic accident in Malmö later that year.
