Jimi Hendrix gets a mixed response at Klubb Bongo

In 1964, Dan Walterström and Per Falck started a pop and rock club called Klubb Bongo. Its first home was the old Folkets Hus on Skolgatan, but by 1966 it had moved on to 18 Friisgatan. With concerts often organised together with the Malmö jazz club New Orleans, it quickly became a popular spot for young people with a passion for music and dancing. Dozens of Swedish and international stars have appeared here, perhaps most notably Jimi Hendrix on 23rd May 1967. It s a gig that s gone down in Malmö folklore. The audience loved it, but the local press hated it. The building was demolished in 1968. Photograph: Bilder i syd
