In January 1954, Billie Holiday came to Malmö as the main attraction in a touring mini festival called "Jazz Club USA". The concert was held at Malmö FF s football stadium on Erikslustvägen, but reviews were mixed. Daily newspaper Sydsvenska Dagbladet described her renditions of "Willow Weep for Me" and "Strange Fruit" as exquisite , while jazz magazine Orkesterjournalen picked out My Man along with "Strange Fruit" as the concert s highlights. However, local publications Kvällsposten and Arbetet instead led with, Scandal at the jazz gala. They reported that her voice sounded tired and that she was so inebriated that she could barely stand. She wasn t helped by talking and laughing in the audience, they claimed.
