Anita and Hornet

The corner building here was home to Caf Hörnet (literally, The Corner Cafe).

The corner building here was home to Caf Hörnet (literally, The Corner Cafe). When it was modernized in the 1950s, it became known as "Cozy Corner", the hub of the city's jazz life. The dots over the o on the neon sign disappeared at some point, and it became, simply, Hornet ( The Horn'). The building was demolished in the 1970s. One of the employees in its heyday was Anita (n e Tage) Nilsson who is said to be Malmö's first known trans person. Dressed in women's clothing, Anita was subjected to ridicule and harassment and was nicknamed Tage Tosa ( tosa is a Swedish homophobic slur). In the novel 'Q', Malmö author Fredrik Ekelund recounts a memory of how they made fun of "this creature with worn pumps, gray-black tights, a pale brown coat and a scarf on his masculine head. When they shouted: Tage! How s it going? , Anita replied in a determined feminine voice: My name is not Tage, my name is Anita! Ekelund also wrote of his own trans-identity,stating: "My name is not Fredrik, my name is Marisol". Foto 1. Lars Hector Foto 2 & 3.
