When Swedish King Karl XII lived in Lund, for a couple of years in the 1700s, he complained about dead animals, kitchen scraps and other filth on the street in front of högkvarteret. Högkvarteret (literally headquarters, in English) was the name of the building at the front of this photograph, although it's called Karl XII-huset today. It was built as long ago as the 16th century. In the mid-1800s, the architect H J Strömberg lived in one of the white houses on the right of the photograph. He worked on the construction of the AF-building and the Anatomy Institute here in Lund.
