Carl Otto Borg, who would go on to be a notable industrialist, was born in Lund in 1812 into a family of well-respected artisans and craftsmen. He studied chemistry and German in Stockholm, which involved an internship in Germany. While he was there, Matilde Hahn boarded a stagecoach in which Otto was sitting. When she saw him, Matilde immediately recognised him from a dream she d had the previous night. He literally was the man of her dreams! They married in Germany but settled in Lund. Carl Otto took over the dye manufacturing business that his family had built up over three previous generations. As well as being a businessman, he took a philanthropic role in the community. Among other things, he donated the stone fountain at Lundagård to the city. After he passed down the family business to his son Peter, Carl Otto and Matilde moved to their country estate in Råbylund, south of Värtunda. It s not easy to recognise this area from the photograph. The Borg family ran their dye business here for almost 250 years and these photographs were taken before the factories were demolished in 1979.
