Church of the Holy trinity & The Old water tower

When Karlskrona was founded in 1680, a lot of labor was needed to build the city. This attracted many German citizens and after just a few years a German parish was founded. The Holy Trinity Church seen in the picture was inaugurated in 1709, but it took another 40 years before the construction was completely finished. The church is also called the German Church by most people in Karlskrona even today, even though it s more than 150 years since we had a German congregation here. Next to the church lies the Old water tower (also called the Water castle), which was built in the 1860s as a water reserve to secure the water supply to central Karlskrona, which had been a major problem since the city was founded. In modern times, the water tower has housed a restaurant, kiosk anda a art museum during different periods. Picture: Blekinge museum archives
