On 14th October 1967, half of The Beatles popped up in Malmö. Paul McCartney and George Harrison had come to Sweden to meet guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at Falsterbohus, a castle in the far south of Sweden. Hunger set in during the Flygbåtarna ferry ride from Copenhagen, so they and their entourage stopped off at Rådhuskällaren for lunch. It was, however, a rather formal establishment with a strict dress code. The Beatles weren t wearing ties so were refused entry. They continued to the Hotel Tunneln around the corner where they were greeted more warmly. In the age of Beatlemania, it was impossible for them to stay unnoticed for long: a passing journalist spotted them, and a crowd of local media soon descended on the hotel restaurant.
