Malmö Östra Sjukhus (1935–1995)
Olga Börjesson was chief physician at Malmö s psychiatric hospital.
Olga Börjesson was chief physician at Malmö s psychiatric hospital. In the early 1940s, 20 men were charged with "moral crimes" relating to homosexual acts, and two of them were, according to Börjesson, in need of mental health treatment. At the same time, a legislative proposal was being prepared, with the aim of decriminalizing homosexuality. The proposal committee noted that there was a lack of knowledge around female homosexuality, and so a group of experts, including Börjesson, were asked to answer a questionnaire. In her questionnaire, Böriesson described nurses and students who, when in love, had become either affectionate or jealous. She d noticed the latter emotion only in those in relationships with men. "For my part, I would think that female homosexuality is not a socially dangerous phenomenon in our country," she stated.
