From the early sixties all the way into the twenty-first century, Jerry Williams was Sweden's king of rock and roll. He first came to public attention as the lead singer of The Violents. They were part of a wave of Swedish bands influenced by American rock-and-roll and British beat music. They certainly learned from the best they supported Little Richard in 1962 and the Beatles in 1963. Williams had a hugely successful solo career in Sweden and by 1991 he had reached living legend status he even appeared on a stamp! He was co-owner of a chain of rock-themed bars and restaurants across Sweden, including the Heartbreak Hotel on Södergatan 16 which opened in November of that year. Jerry was on hand on opening night to pour beers, mingle with guests and play an exclusive concert.
