Band members Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Benny Andersson had their first date in March 1969 at Kramer, a notable hotel and restaurant in the city. Anni-Frid had been performing at Kramer with pianist Charlie Norman while Benny was playing with the Hep Stars across town at Arkaden. Later that year Frida took part in Melodifestivalen, the event that decides Sweden s entry to the Eurovision Song Contest. Her entry, Härlig är vår jord ( Our Earth is Beautiful ), finished in fifth place.Malmö played a part in the origin story of global superstars ABBA.
