This is the heart of Nöden, the part of town named after its poorest residents ( Nöden roughly translates as dearth or hardship ).
This is the heart of Nöden, the part of town named after its poorest residents ( Nöden roughly translates as dearth or hardship ). Many of the houses are gone now, but around the turn of the century it was a densely populated part of town including a large number of Jewish inhabitants. The little white house further to the right in the photograph, when it was newly built in 1851, held two small single room apartments and an attic.
