The Grand Hotel was designed by Helsingborg architect Alfred Hellerström and was built between 1896 and 1898 on Bantorget. The official inauguration was held on the 12th October 1899. During the 1910s, the hotel gained a large academic clientele partly because of the popularity of Ingrid Persdotter, the vivacious waitress who came to the Grand Hotel from Tua, the student cafe across town. A number of notable Lund academics have stayed here, including Sam Ask and Carl Henrik Jensen-Carl n, whose many caricatures of fellow guests still hang on the walls of the dining room and foyer.
