It started already in the 18th century with two pattern and model chambers inside the Karlskrona Fleet Base. This was the basis for what we today call the Naval Museum (Marinmuseum), one of Sweden's most appreciated tourist destinations. In 1997, the Naval Museum moved into a completely unique building located on a 145 meter long pier in the water on the island of Stumholmen, with an underwater tunnel from which you can see an old shipwreck. In 2014, the museum was expanded with a submarine hall in which you can view the Swedish submarine weapon's first submarine "The Shark" and the Cold War submarine "Neptune". The Naval Museum also has several other ships, including the minesweeper Bremön from the 1940s and the Full rigger Jarramas, launched in 1900, which are moored at the museum's pier. In the picture taken in the early 1990s, you can see piling work prior to the construction of the new museum building. Picture: Blekinge museum archives
