Until 1991, the island of Stumholmen was part of the the Naval Base of Karlskrona and closed to the public. On the island there were, among other things, clothing workshop, shooting range, boat storage and a Crown jail. Another important function was the Crown bakery, built in the 1730s . This is the building to the right after the bridge. Ship s crust for the Swedish Baltic Fleet's ships and soft bread called "Ankarstock" for use ashore was baked here. During 1864, the building got a new function as a grain warehouse and housing for employees when the new Crown bakery was built elsewhere on Stumholmen. Even today, the building is used as a residence and this is one of the old houses that was incorporated into the planning when Stumholmen hosted the housing fair "Bo-93".
