When the Five finger Dry docks where buildt from mid 18th Century, the Shipyard area was significant larger. The Enclosure wall was bas buildt during 1830-1838, and the main purpuse was to seperate the civilian part of the City from the military area . The wall still has the same purpuse and is a military protected object. The picture shows The Chapmanplan area in the beginning of the 20th Century. To the right, there used to be a green park with large trees. In the background we can see some of the traditional wooden houses on Björkholmen (The oldest civilian part of the City). Many of them were demolished in the 1970s to make way for more modern ones. Picture: Blekinge museum archives
