Admiralty Church Eastern side

The Royal Admiralty Parish in Karlskrona was founded in 1681, 1 year after Karlskrona was established.

The Royal Admiralty Parish in Karlskrona was founded in 1681, 1 year after Karlskrona was established. The parish is one of five non-territorial parishes in Sweden. This means that the members of the parish are connected to the congregation due to. professional affiliation (military assembly) and not depending on where they live, which is most common in Sweden. The Admiralty Church was built as a temporary structure, the intention was that a much larger stone church would be built adjacent to where the Admiralty Clocktower is located. During the middle of the 19th century, however, it became clear that this would not happen and a major renovation of the Admiralty Church Ulrica Pia was carried out instead, and at that time the church was painted yellow and given baroque details. In 1974 it was decided that the church would be painted red again as it was from the beginning. Picture: Blekinge museum archives
